Quick Drive:Jeep Liberty Renegade

Dynamically, the car is not a very good Liberty in the context of new SUVs and Crossovers. The 3.7-liter V-6 feels pretty old nowadays, producing 210 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque. Do a little math reveals that poor engine power-to-displacement and torque ratios to move (56.7 hp and 63.5 lb-ft of torque per liter of displacement). The 3.7 redlines at 6000 rpm / min, but the peak power and torque that arrives at 5200 rev / min and 4000 respectively, the Liberty really needs to be revved to get something.
This shows through to the pump. With an EPA rating of 15 miles per gallon in the city and 21 on the highway, I was not expecting to sip fuel. And with an average of seventeen miles per gallon, I was right. Fortunately, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 will fit under the hood along the Liberty.
Despite the generally uninspired engine, I really enjoyed the freedom. There is something more American traditional bombings in on an all-terrain. This is especially true in the snow-covered Michigan, where the chance to step off the beaten track can become an adventure of fun on the side. That being said, I would not mind a little more off-road tech in Liberty. A box or two-speed transfer system Selec-Terrain fantasy Grand Cherokee would welcome additions. The two would go a long way to give freedom a little more off-road cred and an extra dose of security.
Brandon Turkus, fleet manager test
I feel very law in the conduct of Liberty. It is big enough, and sitting felt even greater. This is useful for better visibility, especially with large rectangular windows throughout the cabin. Unlike many SUVs and crossovers, I feel that I can actually have a sense of investment in terms of channels, other vehicles, etc., instead of the sole benefit of a good view of the road. The windows are low enough so I could see the ground almost directly next to the vehicle as well. It would surely be useful in a precarious off-road, but it also inspires some confidence on the road and parking lots.
The suspension is stiff enough when traveling on the road and it does not absorb a lot of bumps and imperfections at speed. Liberty also has a tendency to switch back and forth, and I imagine my cold neck feeling sore after a long drive on roads in need of Michigan. In addition, this feeling I have said above is reflected in a large number of welds in the corners, which is far from ideal for comfort and stability.
The interior of this particular Jeep was a marked improvement over the past freedoms. He had black leather upholstery, and the basic design of the cabin look more classic type as the previous Jeep Liberty I drove (which had more atmospheres Car Rental in progress). He felt very Purpose Driven, and many angles and rectangles mirror the exterior styling.
Beltz John Snyder, director of production
With all the big changes, big updates and new vehicles that Chrysler Group was the deployment of the end (think Dodge Charger / Chrysler 300, Jeep Liberty, and even the Fiat 500), Liberty feels bit shy to me. Driving dynamics do not feel a lot better than the outgoing truck, and the right to Brandon to the question of the absence of the other ubiquitous Pentastar V-6 here, too. I think Jeep, rightly put most of his time and resources to update the Grand Cherokee, giving them the freedom that the benefit of a new (and much better, thank you) inside.
In short, the Liberty is a much better purchase in 2011 than it was in the 2010 model year, but I do not see a lot of sales to the conquest of the new generation of SUVs and crossovers.
However, the freedom to do a good price / engine / size equation compared to the competition. The slots between Jeep great options like the Chevrolet Equinox Highlander / Toyota, and smaller as the Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage. It also has a V-6, where many options are similar to only four cylinders (with six more powerful, in spite of how we feel about it), and its price is competitive with all smaller vehicles.
Seyth-Miersma, editor
Benefits
Off-road capability is certainly still present
Refinement of the Interior has made some progress in this generation
Price to be competitive with large, AWD vehicles less powerful
Cons
3.7-liter V-6 feels a bit old considering the Pentastar is now in other Jeeps
Feels a little unstable when cornering at high speed
For a little more you can have a V-6 Grand Cherokee, is this you really want?

Accessories for comfort and safety

Car dealers offer new car buyers a wide range of personalization accessories. These are manufactured to the same standards and are usually covered by the original warranty of the vehicle. Their quality and functionality are guaranteed, unlike some items unearthed on the Internet; in addition, require shipping and / or customs clearance. In case of problems, they are easy to return.
Of course, it is also possible to buy accessories for an older vehicle. In all cases, your dealer probably what you want.
Some accessories are especially useful in winter, enhancing the safety, comfort and durability of the vehicle in harsh conditions.
Carpets and trays
Protect the carpet of your vehicle against moisture, salt and sand with winter mats suitable contour. Without them, mold eventually settled and the metal floor under the carpet is more likely to rust. These carpets are easy to clean in the sink or at the car wash.
In the trunk, consider a table or a hard cover for storage ski boots, shovels and other winter items. The door sill covers are also available with most models; nothing better to prevent your dirty boots or your dog from damaging the paint at the bottom of your vehicle.
Boxes and racks
If you like skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing, you should avoid storing your equipment in order not to grab too much space or damaging the trunk or seats. Consider instead a rigid or a carrier which is installed on the roof or rear of the vehicle.
Baffles and mudguards
Protecting your vehicle from the start, you will increase its value at resale. A deflector hood, fenders and other accessories such effectively protect areas vulnerable to debris and dirt from the road. You will not only preserve the luster of your vehicle but also to give it a personal touch.
Running
You have a big truck or SUV? Think of footsteps. In addition to adding an element of robustness and easy access to the cockpit, they can take off the snow and slush of your boots with a good kick.
GPS and Bluetooth
You can buy a navigation system and hands-free phone in an electronics store and settle for lower quality and limited functionality, not to mention son lying on the dashboard. The alternative is to visit your dealership, which offers various solutions fully integrated into your vehicle. Armed with a good GPS and a good voice command system, you can keep both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road this winter. Practice when conditions deteriorate.
Rims and winter tires
Dealer offers a wide range of wheels and winter tires. One visit will allow you to deal with advisors who will recommend the model that best meets your needs within your budget. You will enjoy traction and increased stability on the road during the cold season. A set of rims and winter tires approved by the dealer is the best solution to fit your vehicle, whether new or used.
Remote Starter
Allow an amateur to play with the son of your car is a bad idea. If you are considering purchasing a remote starter, do install the dealership by a qualified technician who is familiar with your vehicle. In addition, you will not compromise the warranty. Remote starters only tried and tested by the manufacturer are available, ensuring reliable starting for many winters to come.
Accent Lighting
A good road illumination inspires great confidence at the wheel. If your headlights disappoint you, opt for more powerful bulbs or add extra lights. Fog lights can also be installed on many models to maximize the lighting near the floor and sides during a snowstorm or fog, and without creating glare.
In the case of trucks and SUVs, various high performance lights available on the market, some of which may be attached to the roof or bumper.

2008 Jeep Liberty Limited AWD

Series, we find the Command Trac system time, shift on the fly (2 lines of reporting). Optionally, you can replace it with the Select Trac system permanently engaged and active torque distribution. In both cases, a Dana 30 axle is installed at the front and another signed Jeep is used to connect the rear wheels.
In addition to choosing the 4WD system that best suits their needs, buyers can opt for a six-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic electronically controlled. Warning: your choices will affect the transmission and axle ratios could limit your tire options. The final report of the automatic transmission is 2, 57:1, while the manual is 2, 69:1. I will not go further into details, but know that the six-speed gearbox is more suitable for those who want to face tough off-road conditions.
Test Drive this Jeep Liberty Limited has been really nice, thanks in leather seats and rolling flexible enough (at least for a Jeep). Part of my off-road evaluation was limited to a few trails and hills of the region. Good suspension travel provides a great flexibility during maneuvers, while the door-to-short overhangs lead down steep hills without hitting the bottom before arriving. I laughed when I repeated the exercise with one of my friends who had never known anything other than paved roads. You should have seen his eyes scared and hands clutching the seat belt when I plunged into a rocky descent. Twisting!
It is not everyone who is looking for a 4x4 and acrobat as radical as the Wrangler, so for those who want to walk in a more or less large Jeep, Liberty is an interesting alternative. If you still envy the Wrangler to its removable hood, you'll be delighted to know that Jeep offers the Sky Slider option, that is to say, a canvas roof that slides to release the entire cockpit. Personally, I prefer the regular hardtop with glass panel.
One option that I have not had time to explore in depth, the MyGig multimedia system with 20 GB hard drive can store up to 1500 MP3/WMA/JPEG comprising a receiver and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. All functions can be controlled using voice or via the touch screen. My brief experience with this system proved to be quite friendly, so do not get discouraged if you're not keen on technology.
Ultimately, the 2008 Jeep Liberty perfectly fulfills its role as a utility all-terrain more comfortable than the Wrangler and designed for drivers who want more driving confidence when the situation gets a little (I think including the famous Snow hems). Liberty is almost as proficient as his legendary brother but oh how much more civilized!

Jeep Liberty, a bridge between two shores

Call of the crossover of multitasking hybrids. Regardless, they abound on the market for several years. And if some are a mix of the worst of both worlds, in some cases, the result is much more conclusive. The Jeep Liberty is one of those rare successful executions of a concept that seems easier to imagine than done, is a balance between off-road and every day.

Since the demise of the deceased Cherokee, Liberty's role could not be clearer; bridge the gap between the TJ and Grand Cherokee. In this line attributes
Formidable off-road, the task was not thin, but the goal is still achieved. Indeed, the Liberty recalls TJ certain facets of his look, and Grand Cherokee more refined finish and even pulling towards luxury "entry level". Heredity forces, the similarities do not stop there. The Jeep Liberty, unlike many other vehicles in this class, came into the world with the wealth of experience in the field of off-road as well as the hard-earned reputation of the Jeep brand. The Liberty comes with two traction to all four wheels, and the Command-Trac four-wheel drive with available on request, and Selec-Trac traction provide the same at all times. Both systems are available with low range.
Among the various engines available, you will find a 3.7-liter V6 that will allow you to ride smoothly with its 210 horsepower at 5200 rpm / min. In the latter, you can marry a 4-speed automatic transmission, the choice of reason, or a 5-speed manual transmission much more attractive in theory than in practice because it does not show up to the automatically. The other engine offered is a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter 150 hp at 5200 rev / min which, regardless of the transmission, does not prove more interesting in reality than in theory.
Suitable suspension
Although the suspension of Liberty is set in the same way as the Grand Cherokee, it seems much better suited to Liberty. Much better suited than you can even forget the rigid axle and believe in a four-wheel independent suspension, the pipe is flexible and you do not feel jittery often caused by a rigid axle. And while its interior and its robust appearance give the Liberty the appearance of a truck, driving it, it feels like a car.
All or nothing
In the list of points that make the Liberty a favorite in its class
Course adds its interior. Indeed, the Limited model tested offers leather seats of a rare quality in this vehicle category. Too bad the bench is not deep enough, leaving the legs without sufficient support. The dashboard and the passenger are examples of good workmanship and choice of materials. The brushed aluminum is very active and it's true, contrary to what is the case in too many vehicles on the market that are adorned with cheap imitations.
By cons, in terms of the volume of the chest, the Liberty has unfortunately taken on the TJ model. It is very shallow and easily accessible thanks to an ingenious system that activates when the handle vertically to open the top half of the door while the bottom opens horizontally. If it were larger, it would prove safe practice, but it must be ironed.
Another point that is striking the Liberty is the difference between the interior of the entry-level model and the model Limited. If the latter is undoubtedly successful, the base model will remind you constantly that separate the world of the ideal. Indeed, the interior is made up of a multitude of overlapping plastic gray.
For fans
At the end of 2002 was added to backlog a new version of the model is the Renegade. This nomenclature resurfaced in Jeep and looks like a suitable vehicle for the Dakar. This model is easily recognizable by a few accessories such as a row of four halogen lamps on the roof, running boards removable, removable wheel spacers, special wheels, a roof rack and other accessories inside. Let us rejoice to know that you can also choose other colors than green and khaki in 2003, we find a Liberty Renegade Premium with a long list of little touches, including seats
Leather and front grille.
Finally, looking at the Jeep product line, we see that what should be a simple bridge quickly becomes the only logical choice. Indeed, the TJ is thin and practical arguments Grand Cherokee breathless at the end of the race, the Liberty stands out for its ability to adapt to all kinds of situations. With off-road capabilities similar to those of TJ and Grand Cherokee and a list of equipment that the closer the Grand Cherokee as TJ, Liberty is what the deceased Cherokee could never do, or the bridge between two sides who seemed to be too opposed to able to meet. And it does better than any other vehicle in this category.

Jeep Liberty 2008-2012: opportunity

We loved the Liberty for its versatility and off-road qualities
Description / History: Surprisingly adept outside the road standard with a V6 engine and available with a long list of amenities, from 2008 to 2012 Jeep Liberty 4x4 enthusiasts attracted wishing to face all sorts of obstacles.

This five-seat compact SUV employed a four-wheel drive (4WD) transfer case with two regimes. Add to that a control downhill speed, generous ground clearance, skid plates and removable wings and you get a real Jeep competent, even when it comes time to climb steep slopes or cross rivers.
Note, Liberty has not only been designed to play in the mud and attack paths. With its folding Sky Slider roof, its electrical outlet, its navigation system, its heated leather seats and premium sound chain, it also had a refined side.
In all cases, a 3.7-liter V6 210 horsepower is found under the hood. It is a good engine, despite its lower power and fuel economy than most rivals.
Those owners like: robust performance, versatility inside the upscale amenities, ride comfort, driving reassuring, good visibility and optional audio.
That the owners do not like: The sound of tires against pavement, lack of legroom in the front seats and the remoteness of the shifter, which is located on the right side of the center console.
Main problems: Start your test drive a Jeep Liberty Used ensuring that his former driver has not made life difficult outside of the road. Accumulation of sand or sediment at the bottom of the radiator, grass hanging under the vehicle and mud still present in different corners are obvious signs of abuse.
In addition, if the automatic transmission slip or vibrate at low speed, it or the computer that controls may require repair. In doubt, have it inspected by a certified technician Jeep.
Try to locate oil leakage, especially at the rear of the tip and around the rear differential. Then see if the engine warning indicator or system maintenance 4WD lights on the dashboard, and if so, you must find the cause before purchasing. On the road, knocking could indicate a suspension component replacement. In addition, if the vehicle hesitates or has difficulty to change his wheel, beware.
Finally, make sure the proper functioning of electric locks (using the inner buttons and remote control) and power windows. Some owners have also reported problems with the air conditioner after a few years of use.
Verdict: Finding a used Jeep Liberty that is reliable and fun to drive should be easy if you put your common sense. Be patient, choose a well kept copy gets the green light technician Jeep and you will enjoy a solid 4x4 with many skills.
